How You Can Help Animals in Need
Animals are truly wonderful friends and companions, who enrich and fulfill our lives in many ways. Our furry friends make us smile with their adorable antics and soothe us with their cuddles and affection. They also provide unconditional love and support through both good times and bad. If you’re an animal lover, like us, you probably wish you could help every homeless or needy animal on the planet. While, unfortunately, that may not be feasible, there are some things you can do that can help animal welfare overall. Below, a Lakeville, MN vet discusses some ways to help animals in need.
One of the best things you can do to help our furry friends is to make sure your own pets are spayed or neutered. We know, puppies and kittens are absolutely adorable, but pet overpopulation is a serious problem, and is one of the main reasons there are so many sweet, lovable pets in animal shelters.
Many wonderful animal rescue societies are working hard to help our four-legged friends. Monetary donations are always appreciated, but you can also donate supplies.
If you have some spare time, consider volunteering at a shelter or animal rescue. Fostering is another way to help, although it does require a much stronger commitment. If you think either of these things may be a good fit for you, ask at your local shelter.
Another thing you can do is help children understand how wonderful our animal friends are, and teach them to treat animals with kindness and respect. You don’t have to be overbearing: the next time your child has a sleepover, play a wonderful movie about animals.
If you know of an animal that needs help, contact authorities and rescue groups. You can also help by spreading the word on social media about a sweet pet that needs a home. Every little bit counts!
A free app called Wooftrax is helping promote animal welfare by sponsoring donations to animal rescues. This free app logs the distances you walk your dog, and sends funds to an animal charity of your choice, based on the distance you go. Check out the Wooftrax site for more information.
