4 Things You Can Make For Your Cat

Our feline pals make wonderful pets. They’re cute, cuddly, clean, and, of course, absolutely hilarious. Fluffy is also pretty easy to care for. However, your furball will need some things of her own, such as beds and furniture. These things don’t have to cost much. In fact, you can make quite a few of your cat’s things yourself. Here, a local Lakeville, MN vet lists some great DIY projects for people with kitties.

Cat Tower

Cat towers are great for kitties, as they offer Fluffy a napping spot, jungle gym, and nail care station, as well as a great vantage of her kingdom. They’re also a convenient spot for your pet to grab your sleeve with her paw as you walk by. You can make one out of an old stepladder, bookshelf, or metal storage rack. Get some smooth planks to widen the steps out into boards. Then, use carpet or sisal rope to cover the whole thing.

Box Castle

As you may have noticed, cats have an adorable—if rather perplexing—obsession with boxes. Why not make your feline overlord her own box castle? This is a great project for kids. You can keep it simple, by just attaching a few boxes and cutting kitty doors into them. Or, go all out and make Fluffy a palace, complete with balconies and turrets.

Pet Tent

Many kitties feel safe and secure in small places. Fluffy may really enjoy her own pet tent. You can make one in just a few minutes, using just a tee shirt and wire hangar. Look online for instructions.

Beds

As far as Fluffy is concerned, there’s simply no such thing as too many napping spots. You can just fold up a soft blanket and put it in a box or wicket basket, or even on a chair or ottoman. For extra purrs, repurpose a hard-shell suitcase, or hatbox. Add some paint or varnish if you like, to make it look nice. You can also turn an old sweater or sweatshirt into a kitty bed. First, fold the torso into an O shape and then sew it closed. Attach the sleeves, and close up the wrists. Then, add stuffing through the neck, and close that hole. Voila!
