Take Your Dog to Work Day

June 26th is Take Your Dog To Work Day! Fido would no doubt be happy to accompany you to your job. Man’s Best Friend would love to hang out with his favorite humans 24/7! But is bringing your canine buddy to work with you really a good idea? Maybe not. A local Lakeville, MN vet lists some reasons to keep your pooch at home before.

Door Doggy

Fido has self-appointed himself as doorman. It may not take your pup very long to pick up this duty at your work place. That sounds cute, but what if your pup frightens a client or barks at the VP? That’s a good way for a dog to get fired!

Noise

Dogs are all unique. While many of our canine pals are quiet, others, well, like to express their thoughts about pretty much everything. Noise may be an issue with more vocal pooches.

Allergies

Hopefully it goes without saying that you would need to get your boss’ permission before bringing Fido in. However, we also recommend checking with coworkers, to make sure none of them are allergic to—or even just frightened of—dogs.

Begging

Man’s Best Friend has been our friend and companion for at least 15,0000 years. That means that Fido has been begging us to share our food for about 14,999 years, 11 months, and 29 days. He’s gotten pretty good at it. However, John in accounting may be less than thrilled if your theatrical pet hones in on his sandwich.

Trash

Some pups are quite opportunistic, and won’t hesitate to go through the trash in search of leftovers. Explaining to your boss why his garbage is strewn all over the floor could put a damper on your day.

Toy Snag

Dogs are very playful, and they often can’t help going for the things that attract their attention. If any of your coworkers have a stuffed animal on their desk, Fido may try to appropriate it. That could get a bit awkward.

Belly Rubs

In all seriousness, the main reason not to take Fido to work is also the most adorable one. Dogs are so lovable that everyone may be too busy giving belly rubs and ear scritches to get anything done!
