Fido’s Summer Plans
Summer is just around the corner! Are you making plans for some fun in the sun? Don’t forget about your canine buddy. In fact, Fido may have a few plans of his own. Read on as a Lakeville, MN vet discusses Fido’s summer plans.
Sniff All The Grass
Sniffing grass is actually very interesting for dogs. Fido’s cute little nose is extremely astute. Your pooch can learn all sorts of things by sniffing lawns: who’s been there, how long ago, how they were feeling, and more. It’s kind of like a doggy version of reading a newspaper. Indulge your pet’s curiosity, and take some long, leisurely walks this summer.
Drink The Wild Air
Our canine pals love sticking their heads out windows. Unfortunately, this can also be dangerous: your furry friend could get dust or bugs in his eyes or nose. Ouch! Therefore, we recommend skipping this one. Sorry, Fido!
Explore New Places
Man’s Best Friend loves checking out unexplored grassy patches. Take your canine friend to a new park or trail this year. Just be sure to put safety first. Before taking Fido on any adventures, make sure he is microchipped, up to date on his vaccinations and parasite control, and wearing ID tags.
Summer School
All pups should know basic doggy obedience commands like Sit, Stay, Come, Heel, and Lay Down. If your furry pal isn’t trained yet, spend time teaching him these important commands.
Splash Around
Some dogs really love swimming. Other pups would rather just splash around in a sprinkler or wading pool. Just be sure to put Fido’s safety first. Swimming can be very dangerous for dogs! Ask your vet for safety tips.
Enjoy A Cool Snack
What better way is there to cool off on a hot day than by with a yummy ice cream cone? Make Fido his own version by mixing ripe bananas with natural peanut butter and a little plain yogurt. Or, make pupsicles by freezing doggy treats in sodium-free broth, using wax paper cups. Instant tail wags!
Soak Up The Sun
If there’s one thing we can learn from dogs, it’s to never take life’s little pleasures for granted. Fido may be quite content just relaxing in the sun. (Tip: these moments make great photo opportunities!)
