Cute Ways Cats Demand Respect

Did you know that March 28th is Respect Your Cat Day? Fluffy may be small, but she definitely has a special way of letting us know when she is pleased—or displeased—with her humans. Here, a Lakeville, MN vet lists some adorable ways kitties demand respect.

Dinner Choices

Has your furball ever meowed to demand that you feed her right meow, only to turn her little nose up at your offerings? Cats eat their prey fresh in the wild, and will refuse anything that smells even the slightest bit old.

Gifts

When we first domesticated cats, we valued them for their hunting abilities. Kitties kept our fields and barns clear of mice, and got supper, ear scritches, and a warm bed in return. Although Fluffy apparently didn’t get the memo that her hunting skills are no longer needed, you do have to admire her capabilities.

Attention On Demand

Cats can be very cuddly… when they feel like it. Your kitty may demand attention when you’re in the middle of doing something. She may also walk away with her nose up in the air when you want to pet her.

Sleeping Spots

Have you ever tried telling your cat not to sleep in a certain spot? We’re guessing it probably didn’t work very well. Fluffy has been known to steal chairs, sprawl out in the middle of the room, hog bed space, and snooze in our fresh laundry. She also often looks too cute to move!

Ignoring Us

Did you know that recent studies have shown that, yes, Fluffy is actually ignoring you when you call her? Cats do what they want when they want, so it really isn’t a surprise that many of them just can’t be bothered to answer us.

Acrobatics

Kitties are very flexible and athletic, and are capable of some pretty amazing stunts. Some cats literally climb walls, while others manage to sleep in positions usually associated with knots or pretzels. You have to admire Fluffy’s flexibility!

Lap Weight

Have you ever delayed getting up when your cat was on your lap, just because you didn’t want to disturb Her Furry Majesty? Kitties have a way of wrapping us around their paws… even when they’re sound asleep.
