Celebrating DOGust

Today, August 1st, is a very special day for Man’s Best Friend. It’s DOGust, the unofficial birthday for shelter dogs! If you adopted Fido from a shelter, then you definitely want to join in the fun. A local Lakeville, MN vet lists some ways to celebrate in this article.

Pupcake

It’s probably no surprise to find treats at the top of this list. Our canine buddies definitely love snacks! This is a special occasion, so go ahead and give your furry pal something he’ll love, like a cheeseburger, sausage, or hot dog. Just don’t go overboard with these fatty treats.

Toys

Toys are of course lots of fun for Fido. They keep him active, entertained, and (hopefully) out of mischief. Pick up something new for your furry best friend, and take time to play with him.

Photos

While many of you likely already have dozens of great pet photos, this is a perfect time to get more. Instead of snapping candid shots, try to get some really high-quality pictures. Experiment with different settings and editing apps.

Splashing Fun

Does Fido like swimming? Pick up a kiddie pool for your canine buddy, and let him splash around.

New Digs

Could Fido use a new bed? Is his crate worn out? If so, this would be a wonderful time to get him some new ones. If you want to go all-out, you can even get your canine buddy a doghouse to look adorable in.

Adventures

Summer will be over before we know it. Take advantage of the warm weather, and head out on a fun day trip with Fido. Explore a new park or trail, or even go camping. Or, if you want to stick closer to home, try out a dog-friendly café, or even a drive through.

Donations

While it’s definitely great to get your pet’s tail wagging, this is also a wonderful chance to help the dogs that haven’t been adopted yet. Although many people have stepped up and adopted dogs before going into quarantine this year, there are still many pups in desperate need of loving homes. Consider making a donation to a local animal rescue or charity. If you’re up for a bigger challenge, look into volunteering or even fostering.

Please reach out to us, your Lakeville, MN vet clinic, if there is ever anything we can be of assistance with. We’re dedicated to offering great care!
