5 Ways To Make Your Cat Happy

One of the many things we love about cats—aside from their adorable faces, soothing purrs, and hilarious antics—is the fact that they are quite easy keepers. Providing Fluffy with good food, a clean litterbox, and regular veterinary care will see to her most pressing needs. However, it takes more than that to keep her purring and content. Here, a Lakeville, MN vet lists some ways to make your kitty happy.

Toys

Cats are predators by nature, and they are more or less hardwired to pounce and jump on things. Fluffy will be much happier if she can indulge her inner huntress. Provide your tiny lion with lots of playthings to push under the couch, and play with her regularly.

Treats

While some of our feline pals are a bit finicky, others will eat anything they can get their cute little paws on. Offering your kitty safe, suitable treats is a great way to make her feel loved and pampered. Just stick to healthy treats. Fluffy may beg for a piece of your pizza, but she’s really much better off with some plain, cooked, fish, meat, or poultry, without the skin, bones, or fat.

Entertainment

We know, it wouldn’t seem that boredom is a big problem for cats. After all, Fluffy seems to love doing absolutely nothing. Keeping your pet entertained is very important, however. If your furball has nothing to do but stare at the walls all day, she may get restless and unhappy. Make sure your cat has a comfy window seat with a good view, and get some pet-safe plants for her to sniff at and nibble on. Check the ASPCA site for a list of options.

Purrniture

Cats aren’t shy about getting comfortable on our beds and sofas. However, they really enjoy having things that were made to fit them, such as cat towers, window seats, pet tents and tunnels, and kitty tipis. Fluffy loves to explore, so setting out boxes and newspaper tunnels will also help keep that little motor going.

Love

Kitties may act aloof at times, but at the end of the day, they can get very attached to their humans. Fluffy will be much happier if she feels loved, safe, and secure. Pay lots of attention to your feline buddy!
