7 Reasons To Celebrate National Pet Day

National Pet Day is April 11th! As you may have noticed, many of the pet holidays we like to observe are quite specific. Hug Your Dog Day, Answer Your Cat’s Questions Day, and National Spay Day all have very clear meanings. However, this one is just a general celebration of our animal companions, and we are more than happy to go along. Our animal companions definitely deserve to be celebrated! A Lakeville, MN vet lists some reasons why in this article.

Loyalty

Pets stay faithfully at our sides through major life changes, such as marriage, divorce, moves, and changing jobs. No matter what life throws at you, your pet will be there for you. Fluffy and Fido don’t care where you work or what you drive: they just want to spend time with you.

Love

Pets provide us with unconditional love, which is a truly precious gift. There’s something truly special about looking into the adoring gaze of an animal companion!

Entertainment

Our four-legged pals are constant sources of amusement. Watching Fluffy pounce on a catnip mouse, or seeing Fido play with his favorite ball is great entertainment!

Cuddles

Pets are great cuddle buddies! Snuggling is actually good for both you and your pet. When you snuggle your pet, your brain and your pet’s brain both release a beneficial hormone called oxytocin. Also known as the love hormone or the cuddle hormone, oxytocin is released when pets or people hug or cuddle someone they love.

Comfort

A purring cat or an affectionate dog is a wonderful source of comfort on bad days. In fact, pets are becoming more and more common in places like hospitals and nursing homes, because they’re so good at soothing people.

Companionship

Pets really make houses into homes. It’s always nice to relax with a good book or movie and your furry bff. Fluffy may doze off on your lap, while Fido may curl up beside you or at your feet.

Laughter

Our animal friends have a special way of making us laugh. Fido is absolutely hilarious when he is confused, excited, or playful … or, sometimes, all three at once. As for kitties, it’s hard not to chuckle at Fluffy’s silly quirks and adorable mannerisms, such as her box obsession or her cute vocalizations.
