5 Great Ways to Help Animals in Need

If you’re reading this, there’s a pretty good chance that, like us, you’re an animal lover, and wish you could help every homeless and/or neglected pet. While you may not be able to help all of our furry friends, there are some very simple things you can do that can help promote animal welfare. A local Lakeville, MN vet lists some of them below.

Donate

Donating to an animal rescue or charity is a great way to help these important services provide their furry wards with food, shelter, and medical care. Monetary donations are wonderful, but you can also donate supplies. Has Fluffy completely ignored the scratching post or bed you bought her? Did Fido outgrow his puppy bed or crate? Donate them!

Volunteer

Volunteering is another great way to help pets. If you have some free time, why not spend it helping care for animals in shelters or rescues? It’s a wonderful feeling to know that you’ve done something great for our animal friends! If you are willing and able to make a bigger commitment, consider fostering.

Spread The Word

Do you know of a pet that’s up for adoption? Do you often see stray animals in your neighborhood? Join some local social media groups, and try to match up lost and found pets. Or, spread the word about a cute furball that needs a loving forever home.

Spay/Neuter

Spaying or neutering your furry pal has many benefits. First, it will make your life easier: pets that are fixed are typically calmer, quieter, and healthier, and are less likely to act aggressive, spray, or try to escape. This will also indirectly help other animals. Overpopulation is a huge contributing factor in animal abuse and neglect, and is one of the main reasons shelters are overflowing with homeless pets. By not allowing your furball to breed, you’re making sure that you aren’t contributing to a terrible problem.

Charitable Apps

There are some great apps that make it easy for you to support animal welfare. If you have a dog, check out Wooftrax. This app logs the distance you walk Fido, and donates to animal charities based on how far you go. Or try Pet to Give, which makes donations when you pet virtual animals.
